SNAPPER SEASON!

The time of year, us Melbournians wait for, with the footy season over and as the water temperature warms up, the snapper come on the bite!

Regular customer, Dennis Heeger got his season-opener with a couple of solid reds weighing in at 8.4kg and 5.2kg out off Corinella in 7 meters of water.
Dennis was fishing the turn of the high tide using fresh squid and pilchards.

Well done to young, Zac who fish with his Pop, Dale out on Westernport this morning.

The boys fished up the top end of the bay in 10 meters of water when this healthy snapper took a liking to a well presented pilchard!

Former staff member and all-round good guy, Mitch Chapman from EJ Todd and Gerard Hawthorne from Fishtech Solutions opened up their snapper accounts with a couple of solid reds!

The boys fished out off Carrum on Monday afternoon when a couple of pilchard-munching reds came along!

Skipper, James Rogers from Unreel is having a unreal start to the snapper season!

James has been focusing his efforts in Port Phillip Bay in the deeper waters ranging from 17-21meters.

"The fish have been hard work so far but persistence and fresh baits are the key for this time of year" - James, reports.

Very good customer Lee and his good mate landed this cracker of a fish from Black Rock in 20meters of water using IQF pilchards. The boys then came in to the shallow reefs near the submarine and caught a nice bag of pan-sized fish!

A solo mission for customer, Nick has paid off with a nice fish being landed in 15meters of water straight off Mordialoc.

The fish was taken on a whole pilchard and weighed 6.97kg on the scales!

Awesome fish, Nick!

Regular customer and JML AA staff, Daniel Griffin and his brother, Jake have been hitting up the local Patterson Lakes and chasing some bream in amongst the boat hulls and rock walls.

The boys have had some great success throwing some Ecogear hard bodies around as well as Dragon Maggot soft plastics.

Regulars, Matt and Olivia went back to the grass roots and targeted some solid bream in local waters using scrum worms.

Matt was using a unweighted bait and tossed it into some near-by snags when he pulled his personal best bream! (Not to mention the absolute cracking fish caught by Olivia too!)

Fresh Water!

Awesome customer Tricky Micky and his little princess, Lily caught some nice rainbow trout from their local lake!

Nothing like soaking a power bait and a few worms and spending quality father and daughter time together!

Staff member Kozi and good mate Simmo fished up in the high-country on a mates property and caught some absolutely cracking trout!

The boys were bouncing some barbless soft plastics along the bottom with the occasional slow-roll.

Southern Calamari!

Spring had sprung a little later than expected, but the big girls are still there to be caught!

A couple of squid charters saw James make his way over to Flinders to target these monster hoods! James found that the in-coming tide along with darker coloured jigs were very effective.

Good customer, Luke Gardiner got onto some solid squid up the top end of Westernport Bay whilst waiting for the tide to turn.

Luke also managed a nice bag of whiting from the middle spit on the run-out tide.

A quick flick after work for staff member Kozi produced a few nice sized calamari off the Portsea pier. Kozi fished the last hour of day light and had success using the Yamashita R01 in size 3.0

This was one of three squid that was caught by Matt in the Flinders area last weekend.

Matt fished in the 4-6 meter line and reports that the water was very clear. The Daiwa Emeraldas jig in 3.5 was doing the damage on the day.

Good customer Yuta went for a morning session down off the Flinders jetty and he snagged himself a solid squid using a gold-based GanCraft squid jig.

Yuta reports that there were a fair few others caught around him on the day.
